That's what i meant. Like, it's not on by default but you can "tag up" at any time during your "newbie" period until X hours played or whatever the criteria would be. Also, nothing should really be forced on new players, especially something like this that would affect their choice how they play the game.

A good rule of thumb is to salvage blues an greens for resources with a basic salvage kit, salvage yellows below 20 silver (or whatever the current Glob of Ectoplasm price is) for a chance at Ecto with master salvage kit (the yellow one), though, you don't need to worry about that yet, you only get ectos from lvl 70+ gear - so at your level, just sell yellows.
New player also - not very informed opinion, but from my perspective - I would definitely spend my first gems on inventory slots, the gathering tools that don't expire, teleport to a friend and overall QoL stuff.
